Rockford, Ill., March 20, 2003-Woodward Governor Company (Nasdaq: WGOV) recently introduced the first gas blower package equipped with a fully automated, variable-frequency driver system that cost-effectively increases production from depleted coal bed methane and natural gas wells.

To maximize gas flow and provide a quick return on investment, the GB-40 Series Gas Blower incorporates a programmable controller that closely monitors suction pressure, discharge pressure, differential pressure, and discharge temperature. The controller automatically adjusts blower speed through the variable-frequency drive to keep these parameters within safe limits, provide consistent gas flow, and prevent physical damage to the well, blower, flowline, and down-line equipment. The variable-frequency drive system also allows blower performance to be modified quickly to meet changing wellhead conditions.

"Our compact blower package increases extraction of coal bed methane or natural gas from the well, so producers realize substantial increases in production volumes and a rapid return on their investment-typically in under 90 days," said Jim Peninger, Woodward business development director.

Available in low-pressure (under 28 psi) or high pressure (up to 95 psi) configurations, the new Woodward GB-40 Series Gas Blower is designed for superior performance, long service life, and low cost of maintenance. The unique ‘H’-shaped layout of the blower piping, with vertical inlets and outlets, prevents condensation from accumulating within the blower, and the all-welded piping construction prevents the introduction of oxygen into the gas flow. A manual or optional automatic free-flow bypass valve is positioned between the inlet and outlet pipes to allow free flow of the well’s gas if conditions are not suitable for blower operation. The blower package is self-oiling.

The GB-40 Series blowers include a convenient touch-screen display to view operating conditions or adjust operating parameters. The unit can also be controlled and monitored remotely using optional telemetry satellite or wireless communications modules.

Woodward-certified professionals, who also explain the operation, inspection, and safety procedures to ensure optimum results, can install the blowers in several hours. Full turnkey installation is available, as are scheduled preventive maintenance and repair agreements. The blowers carry a 24-month warranty against defects in material or workmanship.
